Charles Wann Charles Edmund Wann was born in Markethill 1816, the son of John and Eleanor Wann. He left Ireland aged about 23 and arrived in Sydney, Australia in 1839. His occupation was noted as a gunsmith on the Immigrant List for the ship Royal Admiral' which brought Charles Wann to Sydney. In Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia 1841 he married Mary Gass Menary who was also of Markethill. Mary was a passenger on the same ship to Sydney. Charles and Mary Wann arrived in New Zealand about 1842. There were two children born in Auckland - Marianne (Polly) Wann born 1842 and John Thomas Wann born 1844. About
1846 Charles Wann was the farm manager for James Dilworth on Dilworth's
Remuera, Auckland property. His
widow Mary Wann later married Captain Thomas Millon and from 1850 she
and the two children lived with Millon on his property, at Wanns Bay
in the Matakana district north of Auckland. Their home is still standing
at Wanns Bay (2005). Copyright |
